What is the commonly used stainless steel material in the valve industry?
Date:2026-06-16 Publisher: Qianfang Valve

The commonly used stainless steel materials in the door industry mainly include the following types:
1. 304 stainless steel
Characteristics: 304 stainless steel is one of the most common and widely used stainless steel materials. It exhibits good corrosion resistance and heat resistance, as well as excellent low-temperature strength and mechanical properties. Furthermore, 304 stainless steel performs exceptionally well in hot working processes such as stamping and bending, without experiencing heat treatment hardening. It can be used within a wide temperature range from -196℃ to 800℃.
Application: Due to its excellent comprehensive performance, 304 stainless steel is widely used in valve manufacturing, especially in household appliances, automotive parts, medical equipment, and industrial applications.
2. 304L stainless steel
Characteristics: 304L stainless steel is a low-carbon version of 304 stainless steel. Under normal use conditions, its corrosion resistance is comparable to that of 304 stainless steel. However, after welding or stress relief, 304L stainless steel exhibits excellent resistance to grain boundary corrosion. In addition, its extremely low carbon content makes it more advantageous in specific applications.
Application: 304L stainless steel is particularly suitable for outdoor machines in the chemical, coal, and petroleum industries, as well as for heat-resistant components in building materials and other applications requiring high resistance to intergranular corrosion.
3. 316 stainless steel
Characteristics: 316 stainless steel incorporates molybdenum into 304 stainless steel, which makes it excellent in terms of corrosion resistance, atmospheric corrosion resistance, and high-temperature strength. Additionally, 316 stainless steel exhibits excellent work-hardening properties and is non-magnetic, making it widely used in various fields such as seawater equipment, chemical industry, and photographic equipment.
Application: Due to its excellent corrosion resistance, 316 stainless steel is particularly suitable for marine environments and applications involving highly corrosive media.
4. 316L stainless steel
Characteristics: 316L stainless steel is a low-carbon version of 316 stainless steel. It inherits all the advantages of 316 stainless steel and exhibits superior performance in terms of resistance to intergranular corrosion. This steel is particularly suitable for products that have strict requirements for resistance to intergranular corrosion, such as certain specific chemical equipment and marine environment components.
Application: Similar to 316 stainless steel, 316L stainless steel holds a significant position in high-end valve manufacturing due to its lower carbon content and superior resistance to intergranular corrosion.
5. Other stainless steel materials
In addition to the aforementioned common stainless steel materials, other types of stainless steel materials, such as 321 stainless steel, may also be used in the valve industry. These materials each have their own characteristics and are suitable for different working conditions and medium conditions.
In summary, the commonly used stainless steel materials in the valve industry mainly include 304 stainless steel, 304L stainless steel, 316 stainless steel, and 316L stainless steel. When selecting materials, it is necessary to determine the most suitable material type based on specific application scenarios and requirements.
